Outstanding! Love reading about the bad assery of the 11th! I read a story about them defending against a Japanese airborne assault. I think it’s the only time American airborne troops did that. I know we fought German airborne troops but they never jumped on us to my knowledge.
That occurred in this particular campaign. My first draft of this essay covered it briefly but it began to have too many things going on at once so I cut it. Perhaps in a future edition though….
I’m on the board of directors for the RAKKASAN association. They were part of the 11th in WWII. Met quite a few of those studs over the years. First unit into Japan after the war. That’s where they got the Tori. ⛩
